Our COVID-19 Response

“COVID-19 has exposed both the fragilities and interconnectedness of our society, providing an opportunity to reimagine and rebuild our country, continent and world.”
Bulelwa Ngewana, Executive Director: OSF-SA
Collaboration has been key to our COVID-19 response: working with other philanthropic organisations in South Africa, OSF network partners, the private sector and government to counter the challenges presented by the pandemic.
Our short-term response focused on providing emergency funding to new and existing grantees to respond to the most urgent needs.
Our medium-term approach seeks to support the widespread sharing of information and to change prevailing narratives around COVID-19.
The use and benefits of vaccines and advocacy around Africans’ rights to effective preventatives and therapeutics forms the focus of our long-term response.

Vaccine Justice Convening
OSF-SA in conjunction with the Bhekisisa Centre for Health Journalism held a discussion on Vaccine Justice on 17 June 2021.
This convening aimed to bring together diverse stakeholders for a robust conversation to activate and initiate a vaccination awareness campaign to address issues related to vaccine justice, including issues such as accessibility, supply and communications.
