Human Rights and Governance Programme


The Human Rights and Governance Programme seeks to promote the culture and values of an open and democratic society through the following objectives:

  • To promote a culture of human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
  • To support and strengthen citizens’ access to justice.
  • To encourage transparent, accountable and participatory governance.

Focal Areas:

To date, the Human Rights and Governance Programme has focused on the following areas:

  • Public Participation in Governance
  • Access to information
  • Access to Justice
  • Public Policy
  • African Union / Nepad

The Education and Training Unit (ETU) and Black Sash published a Paralegal Advice Manual with funding from the Open Society Foundation for South Africa.
